Visiting the museum
Every saturday 11 am guided tour in English. This summer in july, august, september extra service: during the week English, Spanish and Catalan tours tours on request.
We advise to make a reservation.
A: Main entrance museum/ former postoffice with interior by Michel de Klerk, address Spaarndammerplantsoen 140 last bus stop bus 22 (untill june 1th temporary busstop is Oostzaanstraat because of road construction, 3 minutes walk from the Museum, follow the signs)
B: Museumhouse/ exhibition inspiration sources of the Amsterdam School/ tower
C: Lunchroom/ photo exhibition Amsterdam School
D: Museumgarden/ exhibition Amsterdam School street furniture
We kindly request groups larger than 15 persons to make a reservation by email.

Museum het Schip has opened an new extension in the social housing block The Dageraad (Dawn) in Plan South.

Support the museum
The museum asks financial support for big plans in the future..
The museum will extend in the future with 1200 square meters in the school, that is part of the building The Ship. Fort this extension we collect items of The Amsterdam School.
Group visits
We kindly request groups to make a reservation, so we can arrange a tour guide for the group.
We have diffrent tours for groups with a architect or art historian background.
Special reduction for students.
The entrance in the museum inclusive the regular tour is free when you have a I Amsterdam pass or a Museumcard.

About Museum Het Schip

Museum of Amsterdam School and Social Housing
Museum Het Schip is located in the building block which populary has gotten the nickname ' Het Schip' (The Ship). Het Schip, finished in 1921, is the most renowned work of Amsterdam School architect Michel de Klerk. Above all Het Schip serves as piece the resistance of the social housing: it is a 'palace for the working class' . Extraordinary as well is the fact that the building block, originally assigned for by social housing coorporation Eigen Haard, is still in possession of that same housing coorporation. For this reason it still serves the same purpose as it was once built for. Michel de Klerk the architect was also assigned to incorporate a post office in the building block. Today the interior of the post office is the only complete interior by Michel de Klerk which can be visited. The special location of the post office is where the museum opened in 2001.
On this moment the Museum works on a new extension. In 2014 the Museum will get the change to open an extension in teh schoolbuilding wich is a part of building Het Schip. Here we can show the Amsterdam School in its full stengths: The Amsterdam School architecture and its connection to the applied art. Something what is unique in its scale and what was develloped in Amsterdam. Not only for the rich but also for the workers!
