Museum Het Schip expands to the famous Plan South of Berlage. In the spring of 2012 Het Schip will officially open its new location at the Dageraadcomplex, but we can already provide guided tours in this area. Following the excellent examples of the Amsterdam School in de Spaarndammer neighborhood, visitors can soon discover the highlights of Amsterdam South. The building "De Dageraad", which houses the new location, is designed by the architects Michel de Klerk and Piet Kramer.

Museum Het Schip explores every aspect of the Amsterdam School. This is done through exhibitions, lectures, publications and tours. Already regular tours are given in Plan South. At this location, a new space will be opened where it will be possible to visit exhibitions on the architects and artists of Plan South.

Retail space

Since October 2011, Museum Het Schip has a space in a former shop on the corner of the Burgemeester Tellegenstraat and the P.L. Takstraat. The hospital originally planned by Berlage in this area was too expensive. Cooperative Housing Association De Dageraad / The Dawn (now de Alliantie) realised this social housing design with retail space with the help of young high-profile architects Kramer and Michel de Klerk. Het Dageraadcomplex is, just like Het Schip, one of the highlights of the Amsterdam School style.

Artworks

The extension at the Dageraadcomplex is positioned on the side of a small square, with several artworks that are designed along with the building. In front is the monument for mayor Tellegen, made by artists Chris van der Hoef and Driekus Jansen van Galen. The organic corner facade contains a stone relief in commemoration of Pieter Lodewijk Tak and stone sculptures by artist John Rädecker. In the inner courtyard, at the back of the extension, one can see a bust of municipal councillor Wibaut, made by artist Eisendraht.

Exposition

The extension forms a home base for tours of the Amsterdam School in Amsterdam South. The former shop will host an exhibition of the Plan of South designed by H.P. Berlage. The focus will be on the various architects and artists that have shaped Plan South with the Amsterdam School style and also on the initiators: the cooperative and private housing associations, with municpal councillor Wibaut and mayor Tellegen as the driving forces.

Museum Het Schip organizes guided tours by appointment for groups.

The initiative is supported by the Amsterdam Federation of Housing Associations, the Alliance, South district and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
